(October 6, 2016) Check out our new Tailboard Safety Tip that addresses the importance of having safety officers at all incidents. Have a discussion about your department’s safety and risk management processes and when you're done, keep the conversation going on Twitter by using #TailboardSafety.
To help incident commanders understand the emergency scene or training activity, it is important to have a safety officer present. Having the safety officer present and engaged at incidents and training is important to establishing a safety culture.
Discuss the following:
- Does your safety culture have a safety officer present at all training and incident scenes?
- If yes, discuss how you are successful.
- If no, how can you develop a procedure to accomplish this?
