(October 2, 2015) The 34th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend will take place October 3-4 with President Barack Obama scheduled to speak at the service.
Every October, the Foundation sponsors the official national tribute to all firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year. Thousands attend the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.
The service on Sunday has been moved to Mount St. Mary's University due to a severe weather forecast. The memorial service begins at 10 a.m. Sunday and will be open to the public. Doors open at 7:45 a.m. The service will be held at Knott Athletic Recreation Convocation Complex.
Eighty-four firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2014 and three firefighters who died in previous years will be honored. A candlelight service will also be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday to remember those firefighters. The service will be held at the basilica at the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and will not be open to the public due to space limitations.
