(November 5, 2013) Each fall, the VCOS Symposium addresses unique needs of volunteer and combination departments including transitioning from a volunteer to a combination department, recruitment and retention, leadership and management, staffing and more.
Events to be held at the symposium include:
- Friday, Nov. 8 - VFIS will again be awarding the Emergency Vehicle Safe Operations Award and the Recruitment and Retention Award.
- Saturday, Nov. 9 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. - Bill Jenaway, vice president of VFIS Education Training and Consulting will facilitate a Town Hall Meeting: Recruitment and Retention. Come to this session ready with your questions and comments about recruitment and retention topics – the agenda and content are up to you! This is your opportunity to take advantage of the VCOS Symposium facilitators’ experience.
- Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. & 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. - Jenaway, Joe Giorgi, VFIS sales manager and Troy Markel, VFIS president, will participate in a session on Risk Management for Emergency Services. Risk management in the fire service is getting a lot of attention these days. Understanding it as it applies to the fire service is very important. This session will take you through the process of developing and implementing a risk management plan.
