The wait is over.
The new and improved Emergency Vehicle Driver Training
program (EVDT) is now available.
VFIS is excited to release this new edition with many of the
same “bones” from the original program, but now offering an
increased opportunity for the instructor and student to
perform new psychomotor activities, case studies and much more.
Since its inception in 1980, the VFIS EVDT program has become the gold standard in
emergency vehicle driver preparedness, training and qualification. It has been distributed by
the U.S. Fire Administration, adopted or recognized by most state training facilities in the
country and has an increasing demand and presence with the international community. EVDT
remains the premier training program offered by VFIS to clients. Over the years, VFIS has
trained tens of thousands of instructors, firefighters and emergency medical service personnel.
VFIS Education, Training and Consulting strives to meet the challenges faced by emergency
service drivers/operators by identifying new technologies, methods and best practices to help
the emergency service community manage risk with inclusive training programs.
The updated EVDT edition continues to be offered at the regional train-the-trainer (TTT) level
taught by VFIS staff. Since there are thousands of instructors in the field today who have taken
the 2008 version of EVDT (black book), VFIS will conduct updates for these instructors via
webinars throughout 2016. Attendance at a regional TTT course after the 2008 release will
offer verified prior to being accepted into this update webinar. The webinar will be
approximately two hours of interactive program delivery. Successful completion of the
webinar and testing will result in the delivery of the new 2016 EVDT Instructor Kit to each
Driving an emergency vehicle is a frequent and possibly most serious risk for first responders.
VFIS is proud to offer a very thorough program that allows emergency service organizations
the opportunity to improve the safety of personnel out on the road.
