Markel joined the Foundation in 2006 and became a member of the Board in 2012. In statements from the official NFFF announcement, Markel said, “I am honored to be selected as the Board Chairman and humbled by the confidence placed upon me by my fellow board members. I want to thank Chief Compton for his many years of dedicated leadership and all he’s done in service to the organization.”
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) is a nonprofit organization devoted to honoring fallen fire heroes, assisting their families in rebuilding their lives and reducing firefighter deaths and injuries.
VFIS has been deeply involved with the Foundation for many years and VFIS’ founder, Art Glatfelter, helped to create the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial, served on the NFFF Board of Directors and enthusiastically supported the Memorial Weekend. In Mr. Glatfelter’s memory, the NFFF created the Arthur J. Glatfelter Distinguished Service Award to recognize exceptional service.
VFIS is proud to continue to support the mission of the NFFF and extends its sincerest congratulations and gratitude to Compton and Markel for their dedication to its mission.
