VFIS, in conjunction with the IAFC Volunteer Combination Officer Section (VCOS), is pleased to announce the recipients of the annual Recruitment and Retention and Illness and Injury Prevention Awards, presented at the 2016 VCOS Symposium in Sun.
The Old Mystic, Connecticut, Fire Department led by Chief Ken Richards received the VFIS-VCOS Recruitment and Retention Award for their efforts in developing a culture of inclusiveness, valuing members, continual promotion to the public and using word-of-mouth to communicate the program to others – all with no grant funding. They added 11 new members and have six more in the pipeline with no loss of members.
The VFIS-VCOS Illness and Injury Prevention Award was presented to the IAFC Safety, Health and Survival Section for their work with VCOS in developing a “Yellow Ribbon Report” on mental wellness, as well as for their work with VFIS in offering the SHSSVFIS Organizational Safety Award at the annual conference of the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
