Logistics of Handling Bariatric Patients Risk Communiqué now offered by VFIS
(August 30, 2010) VFIS recently released a new Risk Communiqué to assist fire and emergency service personnel on ways to best handle bariatric patients and reduce the risk of both patient and provider injury. VFIS Announces Online Seat Belt Safety Class
VFIS has announced the addition of “Seat Belt Safety” to their online training classes. The course is intended to help individuals better understand the need for the use of Seat Belts, the development of a Standard Operating Guideline for their use, and the involvement in the National Seat Belt Pledge program. The program is FREE. It can be accessed at http://vfis.sju.edu.

Announcing VFIS Web-based Training
In our continuous efforts to improve safety and operations in the fire and EMS services through education, training, risk management and insurance programs, VFIS has joined forces with St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA in the development of a distance-learning program.

VFIS is pleased to announce that our distance-learning site, vfis.sju.edu, is now live. Check out these valuable programs in our initial release:

  • Privately Owned Vehicle Driving Safety (our full training program including videos)
  • Firefighter Safety (our basic firefighter safety program)
  • Sexual Harassment Prevention (designed as a refresher program for annual compliance with required harassment prevention training)

Troy Markel Named President of VFIS
On October 6, 2009, Troy Markel assumed the role of VFIS President. Troy has almost 20 years of service with VFIS, starting in 1990 as a sales and marketing representative for VFIS Life and Group operations. In 1992, Troy became a Regional Marketing Representative for VFIS Property & Casualty operations, with responsibilities gradually expanding over the years into his present role of Regional Vice President/Eastern Region.

Wingspread V Report Now Available
Wingspread V, the fifth conference held on statements of national significance to the fire service and to those who serve, was held in Atlanta in late March and early April of 2006. Named for the Wingspread Conference Center where the conference was originally held in 1966, the conference has continuously been held once a decade since. To summarize the conference, a report has been developed for your information.
